Dubai Police rescue 5 stranded hikers 'trapped' in Hatta Mountains
Five hikers who were stuck on a mountain in Hatta were rescue by Dubai Police as they got stuck on a treacherous path and couldn’t descend safely. It was a joint operation by two air ambulance operators, two pilots and one navigator of Dubai Police Air Wing.
They lowered paramedics to the hikers’ destination with a helicopter with a hoist. After health authorities assured them they were safe and provided care, they didn’t need hospitalisation.
The Air Wing Centre Commander and Control Centre received a distress call from the team, says Pilot Colonel Khalfan Salem Al Mazroui, acting director of the Air Wing Centre.
"The Air Wing team immediately rolled out a helicopter to the hikers’ precise spot. ‘Since it was extremely crowded and there was no secure landing spot, the team used a winch to lift the people to safety after doing some proper calculations,’ Colonel Al Mazroui told me. ‘The job was done very effectively, and all parties were in safety,’ he continued.
The hikers were carried to safety and the rescue process was completed in short order. Col Al Mazroui asked people to dial 999 for an emergency call or "SOS" option on the Dubai Police app in an emergency.
Dubai Ambulance together with the Dubai Police Air Wing Centre and Brave Team managed to rescue the individuals from the rocky terrain of the Hatta Mountains during a hiking trip, said Mishal Julfar, CEO of the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services.
The Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services and Dubai Police were in close collaboration on this mission, he pointed out. It shows that their teams are ready to deal with incidents in the most challenging of circumstances. This is very important because a lot of people come to Hatta in the time of "Hatta Winter Festival".
He continued: "The operation is also a reflection of how they have pledged to send special ambulance units and high-tech vehicles containing the most modern medical equipment for residents, tourists and activity attendees alike.
They praised Dubai Ambulance and Dubai Police teams for the execution of the operation.
These individuals were rescued and thanked Dubai Police, who responded quickly and professionally and thanked the police for being so competent and committed to their safety.
