Dubai: Man jailed, fined Dh100,000 for driving under influence of drugs
The court further held that the accused guilty of operating a vehicle without insurance cover and beyond the validity period of the driving license.
A motorist was sentenced to two years in prison and fined Dh100,000 by the Dubai Traffic Court after he committed a string of traffic offenses and other drug offenses.
The accusations made against the accused were proved to the court that he posted the overly revoked probation period and he had in his possession psychotropic drugs without the requisite state approval.
The court as well… imposed a ban on him from operating a motor vehicle for a period of three months from the date of his conviction. He will then be bashed up against the borders of the state where the driver will have to be.
In layman terms, the U.A.E authorities under the Central Bank did not allow him to pay or transfer money or to do so on behalf of any person for two years after the completion of the sentence.
Counselor Salah Bu Farousha Al Falasi, a senior advocate and in charge of the traffic prosecution, urged all vehicle operators to avoid drug or alcohol abuse while driving and urged them to observe traffic laws to promote road safety in Dubai.
What the law says
There is a zero tolerance law put in practice in the UAE with regards to motorists who are caught driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. Within one year from the date of the verdict, the offender’s license will be suspended; however, how the punishment system will operate further with regard to the fine and jail term, will be decided by the court.
Nowadays in the United Arab Emirates, anybody caught driving a car with an expired driving license or with the documents of a vehicle that have expired registration can expect a fine of 500 dirhams. For the failure of the conditions mentioned above four blank points can be imputed and the government machinery of the offenders will also be taken away.
Driving a vehicle without a car insurance policy in the UAE is Dh500 fine and four black points on driving license. For unauthorized parking, the vehicle could be towed and clamped by the authorities for a period of seven days.
