Dubai: Indian expat wins $1 million in latest Duty Free draw
In the Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire draw, Venugopal Mullacheri aged 52 and an Indian national settled in Ajman is now the latest winner of 1 million dollars. He won as the 500th winner in the Series 500 promotion and holds the ticket number 1163 which he bought at the Terminal 2 Arrivals shop on April 23.
Mullacheri, a resident of Ajman for more than a decade and cetified facebook watcher, was thrilled to hear his name being announced during one of the live draws from the Dubai Duty Free page that they host on Facebook.
Mullacheri has 2 kids and works as an IT Support Specialist at a company based in Ajman. He has been actively participating in the promotion for over 15 years now.
While commenting on the win, he said, "I'm delighted to become the 500th winner of the Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire. About this promotion, I am a long time participant so I am honored to be one of the winners this promotion has brought forward. Thank you so much Dubai Duty Free.”
Mullacheri who is originally from Kerala makes him the 249th Indian to win 1 million dollars through the Millennium promotion since 1999. Indian nationals overwhelmingly constitute the largest ticket purchasers making this arms race possible.
Dubai International Airport was abuzz with excitement during the lucky draw event in Concourse B, as it was attended by prominent figures, including Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, who holds the dual positions of President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and the Chairperson of Dubai Duty Free. Sheikh Ahmed participated in the draw alongside the Dubai Duty Free Executive team led by Managing Director Ramesh Cidambi, drawing one of the lots and declaring the fortunate winner.
