Dubai Burj Khalifa residents share intense New Year preparations
As the world waits in anticipation of New Year’s Eve fireworks at the Burj Khalifa, some lucky residents can watch the magic from a different angle. Living in the tallest building in the world gets a front row seat to the careful preparations that turn the tallest building into a shining star.
‘The planning begins about November 30, when the laser lamps that are used for the light show will be hooked up to the building,’ said Amsterdam-based dentist Mina Jethu.
"A lot of preparations happen in December. It began to look like a Mission Impossible sort of thing, experts setting up the scaffolding for the bonfires. And it’s funny to see the lamps flicker and change colour during the test phase, even if it’s early in the morning".
Mina said residents get the rundown of New Year’s festivities at the beginning of December.
"We can get Burj Park tickets ahead of time and there are specific rules on access and safety because of the fireworks display," she added. "People are always ready to help." Staff members.
Mina will go to Suriname for New Year’s Eve this year, and she will have her family there. "I have done six years of celebration at the Burj Khalifa, but this year I want to travel back in time to my family in South America," she added.
While she will not be in her flat for the fireworks, Mina thinks about how lucky she is to be living at this special place. "It’s unreal to be a part of the celebrations every year. Thank God for what I have gone through, I can’t wait to see the celebration videos."
A ritual of celebration
The 47th floor is shared by an Indian expat named Salim Moopen, who has watched the work begin since early December. Day by day, he waits.
"I’ve been here for 5 years, and I’ve been everywhere in the UAE, but this will always be the best," he told me. ‘My family and I take our mats out there and see the show together. We’ve done it for years, and that’s one of the holidays that I never tire of."
Upper floors facilities such as the gym and the pool are closed for preppings at this point, Salim said.
Burj Khalifa fireworks are something that people go to see thousands of times each New Year’s Eve. Scores catch the stream, but for a lot of people in the UAE, the Burj Khalifa fireworks at night is a show unlike any other — even though the streets are closed, the traffic jams, and standing in line is hard.
But last year Salim spent New Year’s Eve inside his apartment at the Burj. "We didn’t hear a thing," he said, remembering he thought it was a lot louder.
