Bride dies in UAE car accident weeks post-wedding
In a tragic event, a 24-year-old bride who had recently gotten married died in a car crash caused by a careless driver. Three weeks ago, a crash on Emirates Road in Sharjah caused Reem Ibrahim to suffer severe brain damage and fall into a coma, leaving her in critical condition.
The Emirati electrical engineer passed away due to her injuries on the morning of August 31.
Reem's uncle, Professor Dr Humaid Al Shamsi, expressed to Khaleej Times his wish for this issue to be spread widely, as Reem is not the only or the final victim of reckless driving.
Reem had only been married for three weeks before the accident occurred. The tragedy occurred while her family and friends were still celebrating her new life.
The funeral took place in the very same hall in Falaj Al Mualla, Umm Al Quwain, where she had once celebrated her wedding, bringing a sad conclusion to what was meant to be a happy beginning. She was laid to rest at Falaj Al Mualla Cemetery.
Dr Al Shamsi said that the feeling of losing Reem is impossible to put into words. The joy we shared with her and her dreams were taken away suddenly.
The incident occurred when a reckless driver rear-ended Reem's car at a high speed. The crash resulted in serious head injuries that caused total brain damage.
Reem, who had just celebrated her 24th birthday, was described as a cherished daughter by her family before the accident occurred. Her family, especially her mother and grandmother, had been continuously worried, staying by her side until she passed away. Her husband and friends are grieving the passing of a young woman who had a promising future ahead of her.
After this terrible event, her family thought about their sadness, sharing their sorrow and shock at the sudden change of circumstances.
The event has attracted a lot of interest throughout the area. The community initiated various charity initiatives in memory of Reem, donating to mosques, water wells, and orphanages. The donation goals of the projects were met within a couple of hours.
