Ahmed bin Mohammed launches Media Leadership Programme
This is one of the measures in the overall plan of Dubai Media Council to grow the media industry in the emirate.

Government of Dubai Media Office: His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Media Council, established the Media Leadership Programme, a plan to develop a new generation of media leaders. It’s a part of the Dubai Media Council’s long-term plans to grow the media industry in the emirate.
The programme aims to elevate Dubai’s international media reputation by developing leadership talents that can write compelling, innovative and meaningful stories that share the emirate’s success and long-term development vision with the world.
To align with Dubai’s vision of broad-based, sustainable growth, the programme will also provide participants with cutting-edge skills to form teams of results-oriented workers and media plans that communicate Dubai’s status as an actor in the future of multiple sectors.
His Highness reiterated Dubai’s ongoing policy of supporting the media industry to strengthen its capacity and make it more important in the emirate’s growth strategy. He also stressed the importance of collaborating with major global institutions and universities to leverage their knowledge in realising Dubai’s vision and strategic plans for the media industry.
Vice Chairperson and Managing Director of the Dubai Media Council Her Excellency Mona Ghanem Al Marri reiterated the Council’s dedication to expanding Dubai’s media sector with new programmes and initiatives. She said the visionary leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, still guides Dubai’s development journey.
Al Marri added that his Highness’s stance on competition as a mantra is pushing Dubai to new highs. She said the emirate’s media message must be as effective and consistent with the emirate’s strategic priorities.
First batch of Media Leadership Programme: Communication specialists in Dubai’s Government departments. This programme aims to equip them with leadership skills and professional expertise in strategic government communication, as well as to ensure they can interact with Arab and international media. The programme, after all, will help Dubai establish its global standing and underwrite the initiatives of its government institutions.
Session themes will be related to Dubai’s fast-paced development as a city of the future and its economic and social objectives. Government Communication The first day will be dedicated to global trends and practice on government communication. Participants will learn to lead government communications campaigns with force and accuracy.
The Secretary General of the Dubai Media Council, Her Excellency Nehal Badri, said: "For the first edition of the Media Leadership Programme, there will be 24 participants from 20 government and semi-government agencies in Dubai. There are specialised sessions to develop strategic thinking and leadership skills in government communications. They will be a combination of lectures, hands-on training and world experts. They’ll make overseas trips to study the industry best practices".
The program, organised in association with world-class universities like Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), George Washington University, Columbia University, and other renowned academic institutions, gives participants a chance to follow best practice from around the world. Tours to countries that have a proven track record in this field will add to the learning. They will get certificates from renowned international universities.
The first nine-month session of the programme will focus on strengthening leadership teams in government communication, to equip them with the capabilities to communicate the right message and information about Dubai’s government programmes and achievements on time. The programme aims to promote Dubai’s achievements across industries and help cement the emirate’s position as a global center for commerce, sustainability and innovation.
