The airport is built in a special X-shape, able to hold 11,000 passengers per hour and 79 aircraft at a time.

Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi was awarded the title of world’s most beautiful airport at the Prix Versailles, The World Architecture and Design Award for its architecture in the Airports sector.

The news came in a Paris ceremony at UNESCO’s Headquarters during the airport’s first anniversary and 53rd Eid Al Etihad festivities.

Just a year after it opened, Zayed International Airport clinched the number one spot in this much-coveted award in the face of strong global competition to redefine airport excellence all over the world.

This award commemorates the innovative architecture of Zayed International Airport, which is at once state-of-the-art technology and a celebration of UAE’s culture. Design enchantment, perfection Over 742,000 square metres, Zayed International Airport is an X-shaped structure that has the capacity to host up to 11,000 passengers per hour and 79 aircraft at once.

It is double the existing capacity and Zayed International Airport will serve as many as 45 million passengers a year and have the world’s first nine biometric touchpoints ready by 2025.

"Zayed International Airport is the perfect representation of what the UAE has in mind for the future of air travel, which is ambitious, innovative and focused on shaping the future of the airport experience," said Elena Sorlini, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi Airports. It’s an honor to say the least for Abu Dhabi Airports.

This prize comes on top of the international awards that Zayed International Airport has received in the past 12 months, the most impressive of which is being the fastest-growing Middle Eastern airport in terms of international seat capacity.

It also has received the top ACI ASQ satisfaction score as one of the world’s best airports which makes Zayed International Airport number 1. That’s amid high passenger traffic volumes which have been increasing year over year to accommodate more than 21 million passengers as of September 30.

Designing for the airport also blends the Emirati culture with high tech features and is a beautiful and effective destination for the visitors. This award is a reflection of the efforts of more than 25,000 team members in creating and opening the airport in November 2023.

The Prix Versailles honor only strengthens Abu Dhabi’s reputation as one of the world’s best destinations and the emirate’s drive for aviation innovation and excellence.
