Abu Dhabi residents told to register pets under new service set to launch on February 3
A new animal ownership system that would start from February 3 will now need Abu Dhabi pet owners to register microchipped cats and dogs, the authorities said Tuesday.
The individual pet owners will have a year grace period to finish their registration without penalty, the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) said. Yet places with cats and dogs must register within six months.
Register for free until they are gone, the DMT said. Owners can visit vets to get their cats and dogs registered as the new animal ownership system goes live on the TAMM portal next month. Even institutions will be able to register animals and transfer ownership as needed.
With this TAMM service, the DMT is trying to develop a single data base for owners and their microchipped pets. Here are the key objectives:
-
Reduce stray animal population
-
Track pet records
-
Enable proper identification
-
Improve animal welfare
There are other reminders from the show on pet health: annual shots, microchipping and veterinary visits.
