Dubai's tree planting initiative achieved a significant milestone with 216,500 trees planted during 2024 which reflects a 17 percent increase from the previous year according to figures from the Dubai Municipality. 


Afforestation efforts and landscaping projects contributed to a 57 per cent increase in the emirate's green space which expanded by 391.5 hectares since 2023. 


The Dubai Municipality planted 5.3 million seedlings of flowers and ornamental plants and replaced 45 million seasonal flowers during three cycles throughout the year as part of its larger greening initiatives. 


The Dubai Municipality planted both native trees like Ghaf, Sidr, and Samar along with decorative trees such as neem, olive, Indian jasmine and multiple palm types. 


The emirate’s green canopy has been improved through the introduction of evergreen species like Washingtonia, Bismarckia, Poinciana, Pongamia, and Acacia franciana. 


The Dubai Green Project achieved the implementation of 165 beautification projects across residential and urban areas as well as main and secondary roads bridge intersections public parks recreational facilities and family squares. 


Badr Anwahi, CEO of the Public Facilities Agency at Dubai Municipality, said: According to Badr Anwahi, CEO of Dubai Municipality’s Public Facilities Agency, the planting and beautification projects undertaken by the municipality demonstrate their dedication to improving Dubai's environmental sustainability and visual charm. 


He added: Our urban planning approach combines sustainability with innovation to harmonize advanced agricultural systems alongside our emirate's distinct personality. Our vision aims to improve Dubai residents and visitors' quality of life through the expansion of green spaces while working to boost air and soil quality alongside climate change mitigation and biodiversity preservation. 


The Dubai Municipality executed 2024 projects to landscape and provide greenery at important intersections and bridges including Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Jamayel Street, Al Khawaneej Street, Al Khail Road, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and Latifa Bint Hamdan Street. 


The major project list included Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Road, Al Ittihad Road, Dubai–Al Ain Road and multiple residential roads in Al Mizhar, Al Barsha, Nad Al Hammar, Nad Al Sheba, Mirdif, Abu Hail and Oud Al Muteena.
