3 years after Houthi attack: UAE President marks January 17 as day of ‘resilience, solidarity'
On Friday, Sheikh Mohamed, the President of the UAE, made it clear what significance January 17 holds: it is the day the people of the UAE showed immense resilience when faced with adversity.
He goes on to say on his social media handle X “Strength, resilience, and solidarity of the people of the UAE, are some values that epitomize UAE, and January 17 is a day that will forever be remembered. These values are an eternity of pride and honor, and it is our responsibility to pass on these values to the next generations. Let’s hope that UAE is able to unite rest of the world.”
Protecting civilians from Houthi attacks targeting the UAE in 2022 was a great demonstration of how Emiratis have the potential to combat terrorism. This was one of the myriad findings of a research study, published by the Trends Research and Advisory Center.
The center’s CEO Dr. Mohammed Abdul Al Ali, wrote the research. It was entitled “The January 17 Events: The Houthi Threat to Regional Security: Lessons Learned. ”.
The study estimates the range of threats posed by the Houthis to the security of the region, considering their complex role in the Yemeni civil war, and their antagonism towards other states, particularly maritime regions south and west of the Arabian Peninsula.
Emphasis on civil defense of gulf nations from threats posed by terrorist organizations was a prime objective which encouraged UAE’s leadership to actively partake in possibly critical events like the civil site attacks that occurred on January 17 and January 24 of 2022.
On a civilizational scale, the research very much emphasized the remarkable show of unity Emiratis demonstrated during this time since both citizens along residents showed their support towards the leadership and displayed their support towards their nation at this crucial time period.
It also drew attention to several lessons from the crisis, emphasising that the events demonstrated the UAE leadership's high level of global support and the effectiveness of its diplomacy, which secured widespread international backing.
The aforementioned events also emphasized the ability and willingness of the United Arab Emirates soldiers, their border patrol force, and their police service in safeguarding the nation’s security and dealing with any potential threats, crises or emergencies.
If the goal of dealing with the Houthi threat above is diplomacy, then the importance of sharing information among partners and mobilizing the world on the Yemeni case is also great.
The study, on the other hand, forecast that the threat posed by terrorists would shift even more. This is why nations should try to adjust continuously in response to terrorism’s evolving characteristics, and more joint effort is crucial.
It called for promoting tolerance and moderation youth on patriotism and extremist ideologies. It observed that they were Emirati youth actively in taking part in countering of these challenges which meant National security was important to them and they were participating in initiatives to protect the nation.
