Indian Rupee Rebounds While Philippine Peso Lingers Near Lows

Indian Currency Gains Ground

Declines in several Asian currencies continue to help UAE expats. You can currently make your hard-earned money go much further on remittances. Both the Philippine peso and the Pakistani rupee remain near long-term lows.

However, the Indian rupee recently received a helpful boost. The Reserve Bank of India stepped in to strengthen the currency. They introduced emergency defense measures over the weekend. This happened after the rupee neared a record low of 96.96 per dollar.

These rapid interventions helped the rupee gain nearly 1 percent on Monday. Despite this win, the Indian rupee has still lost about 6 percent recently. It is currently trading at Dh25.93, showing slight weakness from yesterday's close of Dh26.06.

Asian Markets Show Little Movement

The Philippine peso remains completely unchanged. It sits just above the Dh17 mark, coming in at Dh17.05 today. The Philippines imports most of its oil. This means changes in global oil prices directly impact their local currency.

Many UAE households are currently reevaluating their money transfer strategies. They must decide whether to lock in these favourable rates now. The alternative is waiting for another potential shift in the exchange market.

Today's Exchange Rates

The Pakistani rupee also remains flat today. It is currently trading at 75.6 against the dirham. Expats should keep a close eye on the market this week before sending money home.
