Dubai Police Arrest Eight Suspects in Dh10,000 Driving Licence Scam
Authorities Uncover Illegal Driving Licence Scheme in Dubai
Dubai Police have arrested eight suspects over an alleged driving licence fraud scheme involving payments of Dh10,000 per licence.
Investigators say the group offered customers foreign driving licences without requiring them to travel abroad.
The alleged service also bypassed the driving lessons and examinations normally required to obtain a licence.
Authorities believe the suspects exploited international agreements that allow eligible foreign licence holders to exchange their licences for UAE documents.
The operation was uncovered by Dubai Police's Economic Crimes Department in coordination with relevant government authorities.
How the Dh10,000 Driving Licence Scam Allegedly Worked
According to the investigation, the suspects allegedly approached potential customers through offices operated by transaction processing companies in the UAE.
They reportedly promised to arrange licences from a neighbouring country without requiring applicants to complete the usual procedures there.
Customers could then use the foreign documents to seek conversion into UAE driving licences through existing exchange arrangements.
These agreements are intended for eligible drivers holding genuine licences issued in accordance with the relevant laws.
Police said the alleged scheme attempted to misuse these arrangements to avoid essential licensing requirements.
Dubai Police Warn of Serious Road Safety Risks
Authorities stressed that obtaining a driving licence through unlawful methods can have consequences beyond violating administrative regulations.
Driving lessons and examinations help establish whether motorists understand traffic rules and can operate vehicles safely.
Bypassing these checks could allow inadequately trained drivers onto public roads and put other road users at risk.
Police urged residents to be cautious of individuals or companies promising licences without mandatory training or tests.
The warning highlights the importance of following approved licensing procedures to protect drivers, passengers and pedestrians.
Customers Could Also Face Legal Consequences
Dubai Police warned that people who knowingly participate in fraudulent licence arrangements may also face legal action.
Paying an intermediary to obtain a licence unlawfully does not remove a customer's potential responsibility.
Authorities also clarified that exchanging an illegally obtained foreign licence through an official process does not make its original issuance lawful.
Residents have been advised to use authorised channels and verify that their applications meet all applicable requirements.
Police encouraged the public to report suspected illegal licence services as part of wider efforts to prevent fraud and maintain road safety.
