What are the rules for riding e-scooters in Dubai?
On Tuesday, July 16, 2024, Dubai Police declared on X (formerly Twitter) that it has seized a total of 640 e-scooters since the beginning of July for unsafe driving and rule violations.
If you didn't previously know, e-scooter users must hold a driver's licence from the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA).
However, riding an e-scooter on pavements or bicycle paths does not require a licence. It's worth mentioning that if you hold a complete driving, motorbike, or international driving licence, you won't need the supplementary permission.
E-scooters have grown in popularity over the years due to their environmental friendliness, ease of maintenance, and health benefits. These environmentally friendly automobiles have not only gained popularity in the West, but also in the UAE. People from all walks of life may now be seen riding their e-scooters around the streets of the Emirates. Furthermore, major authorities are eager to make the e-scooter driving experience safe and hassle-free for all. The Road and Transport Authority of Dubai (RTA) has established instructions for e-scooter drivers. We will look at all of the RTA e-scooter user duties that everyone must observe.
RTA E-SCOOTER USERS' OBLIGATIONS
The fast growth of environmentally friendly transport has given rise to a variety of mobility options. E-scooters have emerged as a popular choice in this respect. E-scooters are becoming increasingly used in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and other emirates.
Furthermore, RTA has created tracks for e-scooter riders. Furthermore, in order to manage traffic and maintain safety, the leading authority has issued a set of rules that every e-scooter user must observe. Let's go over the RTA e-scooter laws and regulations that users must observe in Dubai.
Visually inspect the e-scooter.
Driving a car with any problem jeopardises safety. Similarly, any faults with the e-scooter might be inconvenient and dangerous. Therefore, make careful to visually inspect the e-scooter before riding it. Look for evident evidence of damage. Drivers who follow the e-scooter maintenance checklist rarely have severe problems with their vehicles.
Download any of the operator's applications.
Before riding an e-scooter in Dubai, the RTA recommends that you download one of the five operator apps. The applications include the following:
- Careem
- Tier
- Skurtt
- Arnab
- Lime
DO NOT CARRY ANY PASSENGERS.
E-scooters are typically designed for a single rider. It is also one of the RTA e-scooter laws and regulations that allow riders to ride separately. Regardless of the type of e-scooter used, do not transport passengers.
Follow the regulations and instructions.
The RTA has a set of restrictions for all e-scooter riders. Furthermore, the authority has posted signs to inform motorcyclists of the laws. Furthermore, these signals indicate whether there is an impediment. All e-scooter riders must follow the directions to guarantee a safe and enjoyable ride.
Adhere to the speed limit.
RTA continues to alter the speed restrictions on several roadways. For example, consider the new speed limit on Ittihad Road, among other improvements. Similarly, e-scooter riders should follow the speed restriction. Typically, it falls between 15-20 km/h. However, the restriction may vary by track.
