What are the rules for riding e-scooters in Dubai?

On Tuesday, July 16, 2024, Dubai Police declared on X (formerly Twitter) that it has seized a total of 640 e-scooters since the beginning of July for unsafe driving and rule violations.

If you didn't previously know, e-scooter users must hold a driver's licence from the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA).
However, riding an e-scooter on pavements or bicycle paths does not require a licence. It's worth mentioning that if you hold a complete driving, motorbike, or international driving licence, you won't need the supplementary permission.

E-scooters have grown in popularity over the years due to their environmental friendliness, ease of maintenance, and health benefits. E-scooters are typically designed for a single rider. It is also one of the RTA e-scooter laws and regulations that allow riders to ride separately. Regardless of the type of e-scooter used, do not transport passengers.

Follow the regulations and instructions.
 

The RTA has a set of restrictions for all e-scooter riders. Furthermore, the authority has posted signs to inform motorcyclists of the laws. Furthermore, these signals indicate whether there is an impediment. All e-scooter riders must follow the directions to guarantee a safe and enjoyable ride.
 

Adhere to the speed limit.
 

RTA continues to alter the speed restrictions on several roadways. For example, consider the new speed limit on Ittihad Road, among other improvements. Similarly, e-scooter riders should follow the speed restriction. Typically, it falls between 15-20 km/h. However, the restriction may vary by track.
