Apple will have limited iPhone Duo units available in stores on Friday
Apple has announced that limited quantities of its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, will be available for walk-in customers when the device launches on Friday. The announcement comes after initial online orders sold out within minutes, with delivery estimates for some customers pushed back to January.
Apple unveiled the iPhone Duo in September, entering a premium foldable smartphone market where competitors such as Samsung Electronics and Huawei Technologies have offered devices for several years.
However, the new device presents manufacturing challenges because of its complex design and tightly fitted hinge. Analysts believe Apple may need time to increase production volumes to meet customer demand.
Apple Confirms Limited Walk-In Availability
In a statement, Apple said its retail teams were preparing to welcome customers on launch day, although walk-in stock would remain limited.
“Apple Stores will have limited iPhone Duo available for walk-in customers, and we’re working hard to get this revolutionary new product into customers' hands as quickly as possible,” the company said.
The availability of walk-in units will vary by country, depending on local stock and launch arrangements.
Which Countries Will Have Walk-In Sales?
Apple confirmed that customers in the United States, Australia, Canada, Mexico and much of the United Kingdom and Europe will have access to online order pickup and limited walk-in purchases.
In other markets, including India and the UAE, iPhone Duo units will be available only to customers who have already purchased the device online.
The restricted availability also applies to mainland China, France, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand.
Macau will follow a different arrangement, with limited inventory available exclusively for walk-in customers.
Strong Demand Creates Supply Challenges
The rapid sellout of initial online orders highlights strong early interest in Apple's first foldable smartphone. Some customers now face delivery estimates extending to January.
The iPhone Duo also introduces new manufacturing demands for Apple. Its folding mechanism and tightly fitted hinge make production more complex than that of conventional iPhones.
Analysts expect the company to face a learning curve as it works to manufacture the device in larger quantities.
What Buyers Should Know Before Launch Day
Customers hoping to purchase the iPhone Duo at launch should check Apple's local website and retail availability before visiting a store.
In countries such as India and the UAE, buyers should not expect to purchase the device through walk-in sales on launch day, according to Apple's
announcement. Customers who have already placed online orders will be able to access their purchases according to the arrangements available in their market.
With initial orders selling out quickly, the availability of the iPhone Duo is likely to remain limited as Apple works to meet demand for its first foldable smartphone.
