Abu Dhabi Baja Challenge 2026: 113 Racers Ready for Sweihan Dunes

Abu Dhabi Baja Challenge Returns for Its Fourth Season

Abu Dhabi is preparing to welcome motorsport enthusiasts as the fourth season of the Abu Dhabi Baja Challenge 2026–2027 begins in Tilal Sweihan on October 17.

The opening round will bring together 113 competitors and crews representing 23 nationalities.

Organised by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council in collaboration with the Emirates Motorsports Organization, the event aims to encourage participation in desert rally racing.

Sweihan’s challenging sand dunes will provide a demanding setting for riders and drivers.

Four Racing Categories to Feature 113 Competitors

The opening round will feature four main categories, including 71 motorcycle competitors, 13 quad bike racers, nine car entries and 20 buggy competitors.

The international line-up combines experienced racers with amateur participants and emerging motorsport talent.

Emirati riders Mohammed Al Balooshi, Hamdan Al Ali and Khalifa Al Rumaithi are among those registered in the motorcycle category.

Female competitors will also participate across motorcycle, car and buggy events, adding to the diversity of the field.

Sweihan Dunes Will Test Speed and Navigation Skills

The desert course will challenge competitors with sandy terrain that demands precise navigation, vehicle control and endurance.

Each round will cover more than 100 kilometres, with individual laps measuring approximately 25 kilometres.

The fastest competitors are expected to complete the course in around two hours, depending on conditions and performance.

All participating vehicles must undergo technical inspections before racing, while cash prizes will be awarded to round winners.

Four Rounds Scheduled Through April 2027

The fourth season will feature four rounds across Abu Dhabi’s desert locations, giving competitors the chance to experience different landscapes and racing conditions.

Following the Sweihan opener on October 17, the second round is scheduled for Liwa on December 12–13, 2026.

Another Liwa event is planned for January 23, 2027, before the championship concludes in the Al Ain desert on April 10, 2027.

The competition supports Abu Dhabi’s ambition to develop local motorsport talent and strengthen its reputation as a destination for desert rally events.
