UAE travel: Families can save Dh250 per flight ticket this summer

Fujairah Airport has begun offering additional daily flights to India, Thailand, and Bangladesh. In response, the airport is expecting a surge in passenger numbers this summer due to the increase in international travel and tourism.
Esmaeil M Al Baloushi, General Manager of Fujairah International Airport (FIA), said: “We have high expectations for passenger traffic to spike this June because of the convenience offered at our airport.”
Smart Travel, a Dubai based travel agency, recently signed a contract with Fujairah International Airport and plans to establish an office there next month, optimizing the experience for their customers.
“Passengers flying to India this summer can save close to Dh250 per person on their tickets if they travel via the comparatively less busier Fujairah airport instead of Dubai,” said Smart Travel’s General Manager Safeer Mohammed. “For bigger families, this may be economic relief when going on an annual family vacation.”
Prices of flight tickets for Indian expatriates residing in UAE during the summer have always been exorbitantly high. The prices of tickets to certain cities even get almost twice as expensive during the peak travel season.
“There are some compelling offers for the summer coming out of Fujairah,” he said. “For instance, there are flights to Phuket for Dh600 with just a 2 hour layover in Mumbai.” He continued, “Such offers are becoming immensely popular with the residents of UAE.”
Perks
The airport is also offering several extras such as lower fares on duty-free shops as well as complimentary shuttles to gain flyer traffic.
Esmaeil said, “Our current offers include free shuttle transport from Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, and Umm Al Quwain directly to Fujairah Airport, vastly improving access for these travellers. In addition, we are providing border free shopping for all our passengers, which entails a 20 percent discount on duty-free purchases.”
There are also some other allowances related to luggage.
IndiGo Airlines has, effective immediately, commenced servicing daily flights from Fujairah to Mumbai and Kannur. Along with making the trip more convenient, additional allowances of 5kg were provided on IndiGo flights making traveling easier. Esmaeil mentioned that plans to upgrade services at the airport are already in motion.
“We currently serve Mumbai and Kannur as destinations serviced by IndiGo, and we will further expand to cover more Indian destinations along with other airlines. There are ongoing meetings with other carriers and we expect progress,” he explained.
He stated that there are plans to ‘ceaselessly enhance’ the infrastructure at the Fujairah airport alongside the services offered to the customers ‘by adding direct connections to several locations and increasing the traffic to Fujairah, which is intended to become a central hub.’
