Now that we are at the end of the holy month of Ramadan, free buses have been announced in Abu Dhabi for those traveling to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.

Setting a tone for the whole holy month, Abu Dhabi Mobility, Integrated Transport Centre, under the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) announced on Thursday, 10 free buses will operate from Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque to Bus Interchange in Al Rabdan area, in addition to a range of services that ensure smooth and safe transportation during the religious occasion.

The purpose of this initiative is to improve the smooth traffic movement and enable free movement around the mosque, especially on days of Taraweeh and other late night prayers on the final 10 days of Ramadan.

Digital surveillance cameras will be used to monitor the roads surrounding the Grand Mosque and intersections with signals. It intends to identify in an instant if there is a traffic jam or an accident, resolving the concerns effectively so that nothing hinders the free flow of traffic.

Meanwhile, mobile electronic signs were also supplied and deployed around the mosque to help visitors locate the designated parking areas, in addition to switching on directional messages on Varialbe Message Signs (VMS) fixed electronic message signs to notify road users and guide them to the optimal available route.

Field inspectors have also been deployed at traffic signals and intersections close to the mosque to regulate the flow of vehicles, and to deal swiftly with any challenges encountered by road users during prayer times, Abu Dhabi Mobility said. It also includes Road Service Patrol (RSP) and vehicle towing services, in addition to intensifying patrols in the vicinity of Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque to accelerate the clearing of traffic accidents. This makes traffic flows safer and more fluid.

100 taxis

For taxis, Abu Dhabi Mobility revealed that during the holy month, 100 taxis will be deployed every day to transport visitors to Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. Taxis will also be increased number-wise because these 10 days of the month, it is when a lot of people can be seen taking the taxis as the demand just rises, during this 10 days the taxis are as high as the demand.
