UAE warns attacks on energy sites threaten global security

Abu Dhabi: The United Arab Emirates has condemned as a grave escalation the attacks on energy facilities connected to the South Pars gas field, warning that they represent a direct threat to international energy security.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called attacks against energy infrastructure linked to the South Pars field in southern Iran, which is intertwined with Qatar’s North Field, a “dangerous escalation.” The South Pars field is a vital energy source for Iran and an attack on any of its infrastructure would be among efforts to destabilize the country and raise concerns about glancing at world energy supplies.

Such actions, according to the UAE, are harmful and environmental risks in addition to threatening the safety of civilians and maritime navigation as well as vital industrial and civil facilities.

It said critical infrastructure must be protected "at all times" and urged adherence to international law.

It also reiterated the importance of protecting regional security and stability, cautioning against steps that could escalate tensions even more and affect global markets.
