UAE resumes campus classes for practical courses March 30
From Monday, March 30, 2026, universities across the UAE will gradually recommence its classrooms for a small number of programmes — which need practical training such as clinical practice, laboratory working or field applications or in person examination.
Higher education institutions under the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MoESHR) have been directed to gradually return to in-person teaching, but only for courses with a practical component that is considered mandatory.
The phased return will include 14 priority academic programmes — among them health sciences, medical residency and fellowship programmes, biological and biomedical sciences, engineering, information technology, architecture and psychology — according to a circular sent to universities.
The decision, made in consultation with the Education, Human Development and Community Council, seeks to protect education quality while considering safety needs.
Universities will have to satisfy strict conditions before reopening classrooms, including protocols for evacuation plans, approved emergency procedures and communicated safety measures — to both students and staff.
Authorities are taking a cautious approach to the situation as they continue monitoring, and have said that outdoor teaching and training activities would not be permitted.
All other programmes that do not involve physical presence will continue via distance learning at least until April 3, subject to further announcements.
Universities have been told to stay in close touch with local authorities and be prepared to adjust as necessary.
The Ministry has also clarified that institutions still bear full responsibility for maintaining academic standards and ensuring that students achieve learning outcomes — delivered online or on campus.
