UAE Friday sermons condemn terror attack, urge unity

Abu Dhabi: Mosques across the UAE preached Friday offering prayers condemning the “cowardly terrorist attack” on the country and calling for unity, resilience and faith in national leadership.

In the sermon, worshippers were reminded of a Quranic prayer in Surah Ibrahim, “My Lord, make this land secure”, that emphasised the need for safety and stability in a country following what the sermon called a treasonous attack on the UAE.

The sermon said the country had recently been attacked by “a brazen and cowardly terrorist act perpetrated by treasonous men who targeted peaceful worshippers,” asking how any religious belief or moral code could justify violence against innocent people.

“What religion permits aggression? What kind of faith permits the hurt, the harm, to be done to an innocent? What kind of morality justifies committing attacks on the peaceful?” the sermon inquired, noting that Islam prohibits causing harm to others and advocates peace and safeguarding life.

Addressing citizens and residents, the sermon sought to reassure worshippers that the UAE remains “a nation of strength, dignity and resilience,” adding that crises only deepen a sense of unity among people in the country and boost their determination.

The message lauded the wisdom of the country’s leadership and emphasized the “solidarity” shown by the public, saying that Emiratis and residents alike had proved responsible, aware and loyal during recent developments.

The sermon also praised elements of the armed forces for their high level of defensive readiness, professionalism and courage, saying that their efforts illustrated devotion to defending the country and its people.

It ended by reiterating that the UAE would stand firm in the face of adversity, emboldened by faith, harmony and trust in the country’s helm.
