UAE: Expat falls to death at Jebel Jais

An Indian expat living in Kerala, 32, died after falling to his death from Jebel Jais Mountain in Ras Al Khaimah. The Dubai-based man, SM, was camping in the popular site with three friends during the National Day long weekend when the accident happened.
‘Friends who went with him reported that he went missing and when they didn’t find him, they called the police,’ his roommate (who didn’t want to be identified) said.
"They got up to the mountain on Monday night and stayed there," said Nassar Al Maha, Incas president and representative to the World Malayali Council.
"The tragedy was early Tuesday morning. His friends went to the police right away as it happened. His death was declared by the police and his body transported to Saqr Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah.
"The visitors have to be careful in high altitude destinations such as Jebel Jais especially if they plan to do anything risky like take photographs at clifftops," said Al Maha.
SM’s body was flown home after all formalities, SM’s roommate who yesterday visited the southern Indian state of Kerala told me. "I am at Kannur airport right now to get his body. "We will have his last rites very soon."
‘SM and his friends,’ he said, went on road trips and holidays. ‘I am in the body shop, he is the mechanical supervisor.’ The two of them both work at a company, he told me. "I had some office work so I couldn’t be with them. Or, we go there mainly in groups. "He left the office early that day and went to Ras Al Khaimah with our other friends.".
‘I knew SM for more than four years and SM was gone.’ He said. Two of the men and a few others shared an apartment in Al Quoz.
