Two drones fall near Dubai airport, four injured
Dubai authorities have also confirmed that on Wednesday morning, two drones fell in the vicinity of Dubai International Airport (DXB), leaving two Ghanaian nationals and one Bangladeshi national slightly injured and one Indian national moderately injured. Air travel is unaffected, as normal.
Dubai Airports, which manages DXB and DWC, resumed partial operations on March 7 after a brief suspension.
Travellers have been advised not to head to the airports unless they are contacted by their airline that their flight is confirmed, with schedules still in flux.
A concourse at DXB was slightly damaged in an incident on Mar. 1 that was swiftly brought under control. Specialized emergency response teams were dispatched immediately and managed the scene in collaboration with local authorities.
“Four members of the staff were injured and received immediate medical assistance. Because of existing contingency plans, most of the terminals were already clear of passengers,” the airport said in an earlier statement.
DXB had the busiest year in its history last year, welcoming a total of 95.2 million guests, up 3.1 per cent compared to 2018 and the highest annual international passenger traffic ever recorded at any airport globally.
December was the busiest month ever in DXB history at 8.7 million guests, a year on year increase of 6.1 percent. The number of guests in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2024 was also the highest ever, at 25.1 million, a rise of 5.9 percent from the same time last year.
In total, 118,000 flight movements were recorded in Q4, a growth of 5 percent and for the whole year a record level of 454800 flights were registered (+3.3% compared to last year).
