Kuwaiti tanker 'Al Salmi' attacked by Iran drone off Dubai coast
Dubai: An Iranian drone targeted the Kuwaiti oil tanker Al Salmi, which was anchored off Dubai Port.
The Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) announced that Al Salmi, a very large crude carrier (VLCC) ship, was attacked at around 12:10 am on Tuesday March 31, 2026.
All 24 crew members onboard the Kuwaiti crude tanker Al Salmi have been accounted for after the vessel was involved in an incident in waters off Dubai.
The KPC confirmed in a statement that the tanker was loaded to full capacity when it grounded.
The KPC said that the attack had caused 'damage to the vessel's hull and the outbreak of a fire onboard, with a possible oil spill in surrounding waters.'
Response teams have successfully contained the incident of a Kuwaiti oil tanker in Dubai waters, Dubai authorities said, adding that there is no oil spill and no injuries.
“Relevant teams continue to evaluate the situation and take necessary measures, and updates will be provided as they become available,” the statement said.
Firefighting and emergency response teams “were immediately mobilised and are presently working to contain and bring the situation under control in close coordination with the relevant authorities,” it said.
As per the ship tracker platform Maritime Optima, Al Salmi (IMO 9534793) is a tanker/vlcc built in 2011 and currently sailing under the flag of Kuwait. Her overall length (LOA) is 333 metres and her width (beam) is 60 metres.
