Air India, AIX run 32 extra India-UAE flights on March 9

Air India and Air India Express will add 32 more non-scheduled flights between India and the UAE on March 9 to bring home people stranded at each others’ land, said a statement from the airline group on Saturday.

The airline group said the flights will operate subject to slot availability and other conditions of the day, and have been arranged with the requisite permissions from relevant Indian and foreign authorities.

Air India will operate 10 non-scheduled flights till February from and to Dubai, including three round trips from Mumbai and two from Delhi.

Air India Express will operate one round-trip each to Mumbai and Bengaluru from Dubai, besides special services to other airports in the UAE.

These consist of one round trip each between

  • From Abu Dhabi to Bengaluru and Mumbai

  • Sharjah to Bengaluru, Mumbai

  • Ras Al Khaimah to Bengaluru, Delhi, Kochi and Mumbai (Mumbai two round trips to Ras Al Khaimah)

The extra flights are intended for passengers whose travel plans were affected by cancellations in the region.

Air India Express has also waived off re-booking fees on tickets booked by passengers whose travel plans were affected, so they can also re-book their tickets free of charge from any airport in the United Arab Emirates to any destination in India.

Despite the expansion of operations, scheduled flights to several more destinations in the Middle East continue to be cancelled till March 13 including Bahrain, Dammam, Doha, Kuwait and Riyadh.

People with bookings on those routes can rebook for a later date without incurring extra charges or request a full refund, the airline said.

The airline group said that it would continue operating scheduled services to Jeddah and Muscat, where airspace is still open.

From Jeddah, the airlines will operate 10 flights to and from Jeddah on March 9, including services from Delhi and Mumbai, while Air India Express will fly flights from Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Kozhikode.

Air India Express will also operate 14 flights to and from Muscat including services out of Delhi, Mumbai, Kannur, Thiruvananthapuram and Tiruchirappalli besides two round trips from Kochi.

Passengers have been urged to check the latest flight status on the airline’s website before traveling to the airport and ensure that their contact details are up to date in order to receive travel alerts.
