Abu Dhabi expands autonomous taxi operations on Yas Island

Led by the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council, Abu Dhabi Mobility’s Integrated Transport Centre has expanded commercial operations for autonomous taxis on Yas Island through partnerships with Apollo Go and Autogo, further fortifying the emirate’s smart mobility ecosystem.

The roll-out underscored Abu Dhabi Mobility’s key role in embracing advanced mobility solutions and aligns with plans for a phased, gradual introduction of autonomous transport services across the emirate.

As new operators l broadband service offerings available to its residents and visitors, Apollo Go and Autogo fit into the wider ecosystem.

The emirate has made significant progress in the field of autonomous mobility. Just last month, on February 26 to be precise, Tesla started supervised road trials of its self-driving cars in Abu Dhabi.

These trials are part of a wider strategy by the emirate to research state-of-the-art transport technologies and prepare Abu Dhabi for future mobility solutions.
It has obviously been structured and broken down into stages to make sure its available for use and as safe as possible however, with driver presence!

These first-of-their-kind trials in the emirate are overseen by the Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility), supported by the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council.

The tests are organized in collaboration with the Legislation Lab at the General Secretariat of the UAE Cabinet as part of a strategic objective to develop innovative environments within authorized legislative frameworks.

The initiative aims to develop a regulatory framework for testing and deploying driver-assistance and autonomous driving technologies across the region, always carefully weighing safety needs against modern transport innovations.
