2 dead, 3 injured after shrapnel falls in Abu Dhabi

Two people were killed and three more injured in Abu Dhabi on Thursday when debris from an intercepted missile fell into a residential area, according to authorities. The incident followed the activation of the UAE's air defence systems, which successfully intercepted said incoming threat amid heightened regional tensions.

Debris from the downed missile fell in a populated area, killing and injuring people and damaging private property, officials said. Medical personnel rushed to the scene and administered first aid to those injured, as well as cordoned off the area.

The authorities had extended their condolences to the families of victims and assured residents that all necessary actions have been taken to ensure public safety. The incident is being investigated to find out the effects and what exactly happened.

Citizens, meanwhile, were told to remain vigilant and observe official safety regulations amid such security alerts. The UAE is still on a high charge of readiness, and defence systems are working for possible threats.

The stance underscores the persistent risks of regional instability at a time when authorities were seeking to mitigate damage and shield non-combatants from harm.
