If you own an electric vehicle (EV) in Dubai, then you can charge it at any of the many charging points offered by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa). These stations are open to everyone but you can be faster and more convenient with an EV Green Charger Card. This card can be linked to your DEWA account so EV charges are billed directly to your monthly utility bill. The rest is simple, here’s how to do it.

Requirements

To apply for an EV Green Charger Card, here’s what you’ll need:
For individuals:

  • Emirates ID

  • Valid vehicle licence

  • Dewa account

Application steps

  • Download DEWA App: Open the app and go to "EV Account and Charging Card Management" in the services tab. Click ‘Create EV Account’ and register with DEWA ID or UAE Pass.

  • Fill Out the Application: Fill in the needed information like vehicle details. Fees: pay security deposit (if applicable) and the delivery charge to the card. Pay and you will get a receipt.

  • Enter Your Application: Upon application submission, you will be sent a message with reference number and instructions. Your DEWA EV account will then be linked, and you’ll get an acknowledgement message with your account information and EV charging instructions.

  • Get Your Card: EV Green Charger Card will be delivered via courier three working days from account opening.

Moreover, you can also get the card by downloading the "Dubai Now" app, DEWA website (dewa.gov.ae), or visiting any DEWA Customer Care Centre.

Service fees

  • Security Deposit: Dh500

  • Delivery Charges: Dh20

How it works

  1. Find the nearest EV Green Charger station on the DEWA or Dubai Now app. Such websites offer you maps, guides, and charger status in real-time.

  2. At the charging station:

  • Scan your EV Green Charger Card to start the charging process.

  • Plug in the charging cable.

  • When charged, swipe your card once more to halt charging and remove the cable.

3. Fees to charge will be billed to your future Green Bill.

Manage your account

Registered users can go to their EV User Dashboard to:

  • Track requests and move from EV accounts to EV accounts.

  • View and pay outstanding amounts.

  • Check Billing, payment and charge history.

  • Monitor EV charger consumption graphs.

  • Find and see status of your local EV Green Charger stations.

  • Organize cards and DEWA Store deals and more.

Pay without an account

DEWA chargers can be used in ‘Guest Mode’, yes:

  • Copy the QR code at the charging station to start it.

  • Log in, pick a time period that suits your charge, and pay the fees.

  • Your balance will be stored for a while and you’ll be charged by actual consumption.

  • Charging will terminate at the defined interval. You’ll see a final summary screen and be sent a payment receipt and tax invoice via email.

EV charging prices in UAE – Get an idea!

Since January 2025, UAEV, the first public-owned EV charging network in the UAE, has introduced harmonised tariffs formulated by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure:

  • DC Chargers: Dh1.20 per kWh (VAT Included)

  • AC Chargers: 0.70 kWh (VAT not included)

These uniformised and transparent charges are designed to offer EV drivers the same experience in the UAE.
