Antarctic Ice Burg solves Dubai Water Crisis

In the midst of one of the worst water crisis to have plagued the country, the United Arab Emirates is now looking towards Antarctica to resolve the problem.

The Kingdom is mulling for a monetary compensation of around $50-$60 million for the transportation of icebergs from Antarctica to the country.

Later this year, there will be further announcements made pertaining to the technology used and the modus operandi of the entire project.

A pilot project will be rolled out next year in coastal Australia and then it will slowly move across to Cape of South Africa. One of the benefits of this project is that it will provide UAE a unique distinction of being the first country which offers glacial tourism with the Dubai tourist attaractions.

If the project is successful, it will then be followed by all the steps which will facilitate the transportation of icebergs to the coast of Fujairah during the first quarter of 2020.

According to gulfbusiness.com, the National Advisor Bureau Limited is in the midst of designing and developing “unique technology” which will go a long way in not only cutting project costs, but would also ensure zero melting of ice during the towing process.

An official website has been launched by the National Advisor Bureau Limited which aims at underlining the entire concept of the ambitious project.

The website informs: “Cold air gushing out from a potential iceberg close to the shores of the Arabian Sea would cause a trough and rainstorms lashing out across the Arabian Gulf and the southern region of the Arabian Peninsula all year round if the glaciers persist. The icebergs are expected to have a growing cumulative impact, causing a significantly large-scale and rapid climate change.”

Further elucidating, the website informed that it will also hand over the Dubai tourism advantage to the UAE if it manages to get the glaciers from the coast of Fujairah.
