UAE Human Rights Working Group-European Union holds meeting

The European-UAE Human Rights Working Group took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.

This meeting is very much an extension of the initiative which was launched by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policies in 2013, Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

It was primarily rolled out in order to increase the awareness in the European Union on the United Arab Emirates’ human rights achievements and includes holding dialogues between the two parties which is held twice every year in Abu Dhabi and Brussels respectively.

The meeting is aimed at strengthening the human rights situation, both regionally and internationally, both the sides went over a host of issues which were facing the region as well as a number of issues which were a common occurrence.  

The meeting was chaired by Ahmad Abdul Rahman Al Jarmin, assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for Human Rights and International Law, in the presence of representatives from a number of government ministries, bodies and institutions in the country.

During the meeting — which aims at strengthening the human rights situation regionally and internationally — the two sides reviewed a number of issues of common interest.

The meeting was chaired by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for Human Rights and International Law, Ahmad Abdul Rahman Al Jarmin, and was also attended by a number of government ministries, bodies and institutions in the country.
