Houthis fire rocket near Saudi desalination plant

The Iran-backed Houthi militia launched a rocket on Wednesday night targeting a desalination plant in Shuqaiq, Saudi Arabia, coalition spokesman Col. Turki Al Maliki said in a statement released by the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

No one was wounded and the rocket caused no damage, Al Maliki said.

He explained that the military and security forces are working to determine what type of projectile had been used. The Iran-backed Houthi militia announced on its satellite channel that it took full responsibility for this terrorist act and claimed that they used a missile, he added.

This constitutes as an explicit confession for targeting civilians who are subject to special protection under international humanitarian law. This attack proves that the Houthi's have acquired new weapons, and Iran's continued support to the group's cross-border terrorism acts, and their continued violation of Security Council resolutions, including resolution 2216 and resolution 2231, SPA added.

"The Houthi militia is taking the Al Hudaydah port as an outlet for smuggling weapons which threatens regional and international security," he said, adding that the leadership of the joint forces of the coalition will take serious and immediate actions against these terrorist acts and immoral violations by the Houthi terrorist militia to ensure the safety of civilians.

Terrorists responsible for planning and implementing such acts will be held accountable in accordance with international humanitarian law and customary rules, he said.
