Dubai resident that paid Dh6,800 for grocery bill among delivery apps top shoppers in 2024
One Dubai resident placed one grocery order worth over Dh6,800 on one of the grocery delivery apps in 2024. The bulk order of 475 home and pantry items on Careem Groceries took several delivery boys to fulfill.
One frequent user placed 988 orders on the app in 2024, and spent over Dh42,000 on groceries on the app, according to figures released by the app. Another slapped 16 separate orders into one day in August last year. Most demanded delivery time in the UAE was 7 pm.
Online shopping and same day food delivery services are also at a rate that has increased by leaps and bounds in the nation ever since the Covid pandemic. As a UAE study last year found, UAE customers are turning to online shopping and there is a 140 per cent increase in monthly e-commerce shoppers in UAE since 2020.
Record spending
One Careem food resident even broke a single-day record of 83 orders over Dh1,000 last year, too.
According to data provided last year by restaurant software company Syrve Mena and partnership marketing platform Admitad, delivery orders increased by 10 per cent compared to the same period last year, in the first quarter of 2024.
It was received by millions of delivery orders, with the median ordering 228,740 orders per year and Dh32 million sales per restaurant, data shows. The amount of delivery orders were over 600,000 a year at Dh126 million sales amount for fast food delivery chains.
The app-generated dining recommendation and voucher system recorded a large purchase at Kempinski The Palm of more than Dh25,000. The customer shaved more than Dh7,000 on one visit.
