Dubai announces prizes worth Dh300,000 for best home gardens

Dubai is holding a competition for garden enthusiasts with prizes worth Dh300,000.

Dubai Municipality is inviting Dubai home dwellers to participate in the 2026 edition of the home-garden competition to turn their outdoor spaces into sustainable and water-wise green patches. The Most Beautiful Sustainable Home Garden in Dubai Competition will encourage participants to grow climate-smart plants, save water, use renewable energy where possible, and express their own style and creativity in a sustainable way.

The contest is open to all Dubai residents, whether villa owners or renters, who have an outdoor space that can be turned into a garden. Applicants are not required to have prior experience in farming or gardening. Indoor or rooftop gardens are not considered for the contest.

The deadline for applications is December 21. Visits to shortlisted gardens by the judges will take place in January and February 2026, while the winners will be announced at a ceremony in March 2026.

Ten winners will be chosen based on 10 different criteria, including water efficiency, biodiversity, soil health, and maintenance, as well as factors like safety and creative innovation. First, second and third place will receive Dh100,000, Dh70,000 and Dh40,000, respectively. The fourth and fifth winners will win Dh20,000 each and the top five shortlisted contestants will also be entered into a raffle draw worth Dh10,000 each.

“Dubai Municipality not only plants trees but also nurtures awareness and environmental responsibility in every neighborhood and home,” said Muhammad Abdul Rahman Al-Awadi, Director of the Agriculture Department. “We believe that beauty starts from within the community.”

The competition attracted close to 200 entrants last year, with the municipality supporting the event with over 150 workshops educating the public on soil care and responsible gardening practices including smart irrigation and the selection of suitable plants that are adapted to the UAE climate.

Dubai’s Best Home Garden initiative is in line with the city’s long-term vision for greener and more sustainable communities. In 2024, the municipality planted an estimated 216,500 new trees, the equivalent of 600 per day, and increased the emirate’s green areas by over 390 hectares, an increase of 57 per cent.

Dubai residents can register to take part in the competition through the Dubai Municipality website.
