10 jobs that may disappear in the next 5 years

10-jobs-that-may-disappear-in-the-next-5-years

Global labour market to experience 14 per cent job growth, but 8 per cent job may be loss by 2030, as per the World Economic Forum Future of Jobs Report 2025. This is all good news, but skills will need to be cultivated to help people adapt to new roles that are defined by new demands on the labour market.

Nearly 40% of fundamental abilities maybe to transform by 2030

In 2030, 39 per cent of workers’ essential skills may be altered. This transition calls for continuous education, upskilling and reskilling to help workers adapt to the rapidly changing workforce. Employers will have to prioritise training so that their employees will have skills for the future.

Digital access as a primary force

Expanding digital access is the macro-trend in the report and expected to add 19 million jobs and take away 9 million, it says. For processing with AI and data alone, 11 million jobs will disappear but replace 9 million, so the need for technological adaption is paramount. Even creative professions like graphic design will be tripped by generative AI.

These jobs are the ones that may disappear:

  • Postal service clerks

  • Bank tellers and related clerks

  • Data entry clerks

  • Cashiers and ticket clerks

  • Administrative assistants and executive secretaries

  • Printing and related trades workers

  • Accounting, bookkeeping, and payroll clerks

  • Material-recording and stock-keeping clerks

  • Transportation attendants and conductors

  • Door-to-door sales workers and street vendors

Automated, digital payments, and the expansion of self-service technologies are some of the occupations on the brink of most rapid decline in the report.

Human-machine collaboration and productivity

By 2030, the ratio of human to machine, and between man and machine, will be entirely different:

  • Task Allocation: Work will be equally distributed between humans (33 per cent), technology (33 per cent), and collaboration (33 per cent) as compared to 47 per cent of human-only tasks now.

  • Sector variations:  The automation of task will decrease at the highest level in Insurance and Telecommunications and collaboration will be increased in Healthcare and Government.

  • Efficiency gains: Humans as well as machines will benefit greatly from the productivity increase.

Economic trends impacting jobs

  • Economic slowdown: Net Job loss of 1 million, jobs lost among managers and salespeople.

  • Cost of living increases: This will create 4 million jobs and remove 3 million; the number of jobs in efficiency-based fields such as AI Specialists, Business Developers, and Supply Chain Experts will increase.

Adapting to changing skills

Technological change and economic volatility will rewire the labour markets. Employers and workers will have to make changes to cope with this shift, but a key strategy is to reskill and upskill. It will be all about learning constantly in order to keep up with the labor market in the future.
