Passengers stranded as Dubai-Mumbai flights delayed

Mumbai airport's main runway remained shut on Tuesday after a Spicejet flight from Jaipur overshot the runway at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, while landing late on Monday, official sources said.

The incident occurred when the flight SG-6237, a Boeing aircraft, arrived and landed here around 11.51pm, as Mumbai was lashed by heavy rains.

Following the incident, flights have been delayed and according to Flightradar24 few flights to and from Mumbai have been cancelled.

SpiceJet SG14 scheduled at 2.15am on Tuesday from Dubai to Mumbai was delayed by 9 hours and 45 minutes. 

Indigo Airlines have put out a Twitter update informing passengers that the airline is offering change/cancellation fee waiver for those travelling to and from Mumbai till July 3, 2019. 

The flight scheduled to arrive at 6.45am will now arrive at 10.30am. Another flight, EK 504 from Dubai to Mumbai was delayed by seven hours. 

Emirates EK 506 was delayed by two hours and will arrive at 3.30pm at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.   

Air India flight AI 984 which departed from Dubai at 11.44pm on July 1 was diverted to Bengaluru instead of Mumbai. A Twitter user shared that passengers have been stranded after the diversion to Bengaluru. 

Another passenger took to Twitter to share that Air India AI 911 flight from Mumbai to Dubai. He took to Twitter to say passengers were asked to sit in the plane from 9pm to 6am on July 2. 

Twitter is flooded with messages by passengers who have been stranded due to delayed, cancelled flights between Dubai and Mumbai.

Torrential rains continue in Mumbai  

At least 13 people died in the retaining wall collapse of few hutments built on a hill slope in Kurar Village in area of Malad East on Tuesday night.   

"4 people were rescued & have been admitted at the Shatabdi hospital. We pray for the departed souls & are watching over the injured admitted at the hospital," said BMC. 

A compound wall collapsed on the hutments due to heavy downpour. Many are feared trapped under the debris. 

In another incident, of wall collapse, a school wall crashed upon two adjacent houses in Kalyan, killing three, including a three-year-old boy.
