US President Donald Trump on Jamal Khashogg's missing case

US President Donald Trump has expressed concern over the fate of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who disappeared in the Turkish city of Istanbul about a week ago after entering the Saudi consulate in the city.

"I am worried about this," Trump told reporters, adding: "I do not like what I hear.

"At the moment, no one knows anything about the subject, there are a number of bad stories being circulated, I do not like it."

This came hours after the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, challenged Saudi Arabia, demanding that it provide evidence to prove the departure of journalist Jamal Khashoggi to its consulate in Istanbul.

The United Nations Human Rights Council on Tuesday expressed deep concern about what appeared to be the enforced disappearance of Khashoggi in Istanbul and asked the Saudi and Turkish governments to investigate. "If the accounts of his death and the strange circumstances that led to that death are correct, then it is truly shocking," UNHR spokeswoman Rafina Shamdassani said.

"If Jamal Khashoggi's killing is confirmed, it could prompt a decisive change in how the United States deals with Saudi Arabia" https://t.co/vzJTberb5z writes @ishaantharoor
